One of the biggest concerns with meat consumption in the United States and throughout the world today is the conditions that millions of animals are put through to satisfy the needs of billions of humans. In the United States alone, as many as 10 billion animals die yearly for meat consumption, and the large majority of these organisms are born only to die and produce meat. Due to the fact that so many people throughout the world consume meat it is understandable that as a consumer you would want to know how that food got to your plate, but for many that question is kept secret only to avoid the critical backlash that is bound to arise about animal treatment. We think everyone should be informed on how the animal products that they consume gets to their stomach because if more people knew about these practices, a lot of animals could be saved, slowing down mass animal production. The chicken is one of the most needed organisms today due to the fact that besides producing poultry, they also produce eggs. Chickens used for egg production are usually only the females; they are thrown into cages and packed together where they are forced to lay large amounts of eggs. These chickens are sometimes even given harmful mind altering drugs that allow them to lay the maximum amount of eggs at once. The chicks used solely for poultry production are not given much of a life either; they are thrown into immensely packed sheds, feed scraps, and basically fattened their entire lifetime until it is time for them to be killed. Although Perdue claims that they feed their chickens all natural food products and treats them with the utmost care and respect, there is no proof of this. We are asking Perdue to give us more evidence of their factory practices such as VALID photographic evidence and statistical insight to how their animals are truly treated. On all accounts, it is a consumers RIGHT to know!
