This proposal for a Three Phase expansion of the marina will virtually destroy a long standing important bird migratory area for native and non native wildfowl which is known province wide.
It not only had an abundant display of wildfowl, butterflies, plants etc. on display in the past, but now has been virtually destroyed by the dumping of the sludge from the harbour dredging reducing it to a plain beach of sand.
This proposed expansion of 120 boat slips constructed right in this area ,will not only deprive the people of the pleasure of seeing Nature at work, but also the wildfowl of an important safe stop over point on their migratory journey which has been available for many many years.
For a three/four month boating period out of the year, for the benefit mostly of out of town boat owners, the town residents and visitors will be deprived of this enjoyment of nature close up , should this expansion proposal come to fruition.
This petition has been raised to provide awareness to the public of Cobourg of this initiative that has been proposed by the Council, and its effects on a very popular natural area.
It will mean the end of a long standing migratory area for native and non-native wildfowl and a natural area ,where citizens of the town as well as hikers, photographers ,visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature close up with their families.
To turn this area into a single purpose boat harbour and a boat yard on the shore
is not in the best interests of preserving a shrinking natural wildlife for the present and future enjoyment of its citizens.

Preserve our Heritage Harbour
"We strongly oppose the expansion of the Cobourg Marina (116 new permanent boat slips) into the public waters west of the central pier in Cobourg' beautiful Heritage Harbour. Such an expansion, which goes directly against the new Parks Master Plan, would ruin the harbour for canoeing, kayaking,Dragon boating, wildfowl migratory refuge ,as well as making it less enjoyable for walkers, photographers, artists, and those who just want to enjoy nature.
