Enforce Safety Standards for Feminine Hygiene Products!

California model Lauren Wasser suffered a heart attack resulting in leg amputation after contracting toxic shock syndrome (TSS). She blames her use of a Kotex tampon for the tragic episode.

TSS can affect men, women and children when Staphylococcus bacteria occur along with skin infections, burns and after surgery, but it is closely associated with tampon use. Synthetic fibers and high absorbency create an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

Tampons tend to carry information about TSS, but larger and clearer labels would better inform customers of the risks they carry. Tampons also lack ingredients lists. Please sign the petition to urge the Food and Drug Administration to require ingredients information for tampons, and to enforce clearer warning labels about the risks of TSS associated with tampon use.

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the lack of transparency in feminine hygeine product labeling.
