The Dance House Amsterdam project was meant to establish a central space where groups and freelancers could create, train and perform. It was cancelled after many years of planning because one partner pulled out at the last moment. This is a petition to help save the funding meant for Dance House for other spaces in the city for freelance dance artists and dance groups.
We, freelance dance artists who live and/or work or have lived and/or worked in Amsterdam, have seen that the Dance House Amsterdam project was cancelled after many years of planning because one partner pulled out at the last moment. The actions of one insitution has thus caused the rejection of a 1.8 million euro gift from the City of Amsterdam to the dance community. This should not come at the expense of freelance dance artists or dance institutions who did support the project and who still need working space.
With this petition we ask the Amsterdam City government to save the funding meant for Dance House and to allow it to be used for spaces for freelance dance artists and other dance organizations in the city.
