Demand for Road Maintenance in Tycanna Subdivision

The Tycanna Subdivision has seen an increase in vehicle use due to the increase in single family residences constructed on Sabin Drive and Zaring Avenue. The two main roads within this part of the subdivision are only accessible by Kathy Street to the north and Tycanna Road to the south. Tycanna is a County-maintained dirt road. As a result of increased road use, seasonal precipitation and a lack of maintenance by the Zaring Corporation who has the responsibility to maintain the roads within the subdivision, the roads are in bad shape and in need of maintenance.

The potholes and washboards are severe enough to cause immediate and cumulative damage to personal property such as cars, trucks and trailers. The Zaring Corporation has not exercised reasonable care to maintain the roads within their subdivision nor have worked to turn the roads over to the County for regular maintenance. The roads are a liability in their current state.

After repeated requests to Karen and Laird Aldrich, the resident managers, to fix the road, nothing has been done. This petition is intended to urge the Zaring Corporation to bring Sabin Drive and Zaring Avenue up to county standards and turn the roads over to Humboldt County to be maintained regularly as with other roads in the immediate vicinity. The County-maintained roads in the area are well maintained and a stark contrast to the roads within the Tycanna Subdivision.

We, the residents of the Tycanna Subdivision on Sabin Drive and Zaring Avenue, are requesting the initial maintenance begin within 30 days to fix potholes and worst areas and within 6 months, invite the Humboldt County Road Department to inspect and evaluate the roads in order to to bring the Tycanna Subdivision roads to standard and turn over to the County for regular maintenance.
