In August 2015, Amnesty International voted in favor of a policy calling for the decriminalization of all aspects of consensual sex work.

Amnesty International is right to support full decriminalization of all aspects of consensual sex work. Its recommendation calls on states to ensure that sex workers enjoy full and equal legal protection from exploitation, trafficking and violence.

Amnesty is correct that removing sex work from the criminal underworld will allow sex workers to both "demand and enjoy better relationships with and protection from police." Decriminalization returns rights to sex workers.

We commend Amnesty International for taking this important step and joining us as new allies in the struggle for recognition of our human rights.

The Erotic Service Providers Legal Education and Research Project has an ongoing federal court case arguing that California’s current anti-prostitution law is unconstitutional. We want to thank Amnesty International for listening to and taking a stand for sex workers and our communities.
