Amazon, Costco, Barnes & Nobles: Stop Selling Felt Menagerie Kits to Create Mounted Animal Heads

  • by: Czerny A

This is a sewing project created by Abby Glassenberg to make felt taxidermy animal heads to be mounted on a board. The Felt Menagerie Kit is being sold at Costco, Barnes & Noble, her affiliate link, Amazon, and in her online shop for the holidays. At a time when many animals are threatened with extinction and poaching is rampant and when wildlife is being captured and bred for canned hunts, this kit trivializes killing and hunting of animals for a trophy head. It teaches children subliminally that animals are objects, not sentient beings, and it gives tacit adult approval that hanging animals' heads, real or fabric, on the wall is a fun decoration. Go to whileshenaps.com to see Abby Glassenberg's page on "Felt Menagerie Kit Now in Stores" in which she blithely discusses her product and her contact with a South African sewing fan. Please help stop the sale of this irresponsible product whose consumer target is women and children. Thank you.
Update #16 years ago
Thank you, everyone, for signing. I understand that some people might think that this is a harmless craft project and that no animals were hurt in the making of these heads, but it sends the message to children that fabric heads mounted on boards are merely a substitute for the more desirable real taxidermy trophy heads. Why didn't Ms. Glassenberg develop a craft kit to make a whole animal instead of a decapitated one? Please forward this petition to your friends, thank you.
