Premier Wall: Sign On To the Canadian Climate Deal

A new climate agreement has been made between the Canadian federal government and all the provinces that could change the landscape of climate action in the country. The agreement would, among other things, see carbon pricing take place, with the hopes that this would curb emissions and fund the movement towards renewable energy.

However, Premier Brad Wall of Saskatchewan has refused to sign the agreement. He does not want carbon pricing. Saskatchewan is a major agricultural and energy producer and it is imperative that this province sign on to the agreement as a first, small step towards real climate action in the country.

Premier Wall is acting in the short-term interest of large agri-business and the oil and gas industry. It is time that he takes a long-term, sustainable view and moves towards climate action.

Sign today to pressure Premier Wall to sign the climate agreement. By signing today you are sending a strong message that Canada needs unified action across the board on climate change.

To Premier Brad Wall,

As someone who cares greatly about sustainability, I am deeply concerned about your recent refusal to sign the pan-Canadian framework for clean growth and climate change and work towards carbon pricing as a way to mitigate climate change in this country and the globe.

Climate change is real and is happening now, affecting millions of people across the world through migration, conflict and food and water scarcity. Canada is a major contributor to greenhouse gases and this country needs to have a cooperative plan to address these emissions.

This climate change action is a small, first step towards climate action in this country and yet you still will not take that first step. The short term economic prosperity of agri-business and the oil and gas industry in your province should not take precedent over the global crisis of climate change.

I urge you to sign the agreement immediately.
