Tell President Obama to make buying fruits and vegetables manditory

Intro: Have we any consideration for our future and the lives of our children? If so, we will realize the importance of decreasing our meat consumption.

Many studies and research is out there on how meat eating is terrible for the economy, health, environment and in the sustenance of life itself. If we ruin the Earth now, we'll never be able to see our children or their children happy or successful.

Unethical: Production of meat has become highly unethical and heartless practices are occurring in slaughterhouses despite laws and bans themselves. Continuously animal protection services are looking to 'protect' animals in slaughterhouses. But how far can they get? The animals are themselves prisoners. This is not revealed enough, especially to the population who is going to the deli.

Indulgence: It was estimated US per capita meat consumption was 124.48 kg by the FAO, and capital loss-adjusted meat consumption was 62.6 kg by the USDA. However, for countries like India where around 70% of the population is working in agriculture, meat consumption is only around 5.2 per capita.

Lower level income countries: In places like Maharashtra, cow slaughter is even illegal. This is because the cow has importance in fertilization. In Bangladesh, consumption of meat daily is unheard of. If we want to grow a healthy economy, which is in line with the principles of the environment, this should also be our goal. Our population is so much less than in Asia, however we consume much more recources so much that we affect their populations farming.

'I'll never go vegetarian': Some people will never choose to stop eating meat, however the incredible amounts consumed should not be overlooked. Some people say anything is good in moderation, but what exactly constitutes 'moderation' in meat consumption? Meat consumption is itself an indulgence. The government should step in when has reached this point, like it steps in to protect people against other harmful elements.

Environmental factors: Destroying rainforests, using excessive amounts of water are two explinations of why. The other is climate change, which this year has been reported to be the hottest in history. The amount of money which goes into animal agriculture is incredible, and this would be reduced automatically as more funding goes to vegetable products with this proposal. In schools there should be the curriculum of environmental safety and an excessive consumption of meat should eventually become illegal.

Health and medical bills: Excessive consumption of meat has been linked with numerous health risks like heart diseases and cancer. By reducing meat consumption we will increase our lifespan while saving in medical bills. Healthcare, which is to help the patient, should not be resorted to as a temporary trampoline for those eating the food we produce.

Solution: The amount of meat consumed should be reduced now by making it necessary to purchase a certain amount of other foods like bread, vegetables in proportion at the time they buy meat at a proportion where it is necessary to buy a lot of food. The amount of meat we are buying and consuming is highly unrealistic. We are continuously wasting and throwing out fruits and veggies as well in supermarkets.

Places like France have now also made it illegal for supermarkets to throw away food. This is a good idea, but for US, where meat consumption is so high, it should be reduced by making buying other fruits and veggies necessary!

This would be applied to supermarkets, deli's, fast food restaraunts and all places where food is provided. Fine's should be given to those who don't comply (Obviously this will change a lot, like opening up jobs for ethical policemen and naturally food providers will start caring about their customer's health). Gradually too this will shift to needing more workers in agriculture and we'll become a little more hard working, energy efficient and smarter.

If there is any duty of the government, it should be to ensure the well being of citizens, and there is no better way than by reducing our hideous amount of meat consumption. We urge President Obama to reduce it by increasing the amount of other foods bought at the same time necessary before leaving office.
