STOP EXCESSIVE NOISE IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA

STOP EXCESSIVE NOISE IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA

Long Beach Californias Municipal Code 8.80.280 exempts city-permitted entertainment events from the citys noise ordinances. Consequently, people living near these events are being exposed in their homes weekend after weekend and some week days to noise exceeding 100 decibels (noise louder than a jackhammer) and having their sleep disturbed at night by construction noise as event facilities are set up and torn down. The Center for Disease Control says that too much exposure to excessive noise can be hazardous to one’s health.

We are petitioning Long Beachs City Council to protect people living near these events from excessive noise from the events. Specifically, we are asking the Council to add to the exemption ordinance the words “and provided (1) the sounds emitted from amplifying devices at such events not exceed the permissible sound limits of Long Beach Municipal Codes 8.80.150 through 8.80.180 when the sounds reach nearby residences and (2) set-up and tear-down for the events not occur between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. except to remove only equipment that might be damaged during the night”.

If you live in Long Beach, please sign this petition so that all Long Beach residents will be protected from noise that may be hazardous to their health.
