Help save the bears of Romania from being slaughtered by the army

A politician in Romania has called for the country's bears to be culled by the army.

Csaba Borboly, a politician from Transylvania, has requested military assistance for killing the bears and for cull quotas to be lifted following a number of incidents where brown bears have damaged property. The bear’s normal diet of nuts and acorns has been scarce, which has led to bears venturing into towns and villages searching for food.

However, there is always a more humane approach to controlling bear numbers, such as relocation and sterilization.

Borboly’s remarks follow the recent decision of the Romanian government to raise the bear hunting quota by the largest margin in recent history. The hunting lobby in Romania is also behind an increase in the hunt quota.

Over the next year, the new quota allows for 550 bears to be killed, which is up two-thirds from the previous quota. However, once the quota goes up, it is very unlikely it will come down again

Please sign and share the petition to demand the Romanian government uses humane methods to control the bear population, such as relocation and sterilization.
