PETITION REGARDING HOUSING IN LITTLE COMPTON:

We the undersigned Little Compton citizens and voters endorse the efforts of local volunteer organizations to significantly increase the availability of community housing in town.

While we cherish and wish to preserve, the unique and wonderful pastoral nature of the town, the lack of suitable housing has made it difficult, if not impossible, for needed citizens (police, teachers, farmers, tradespeople, and others) to live here. We know that community housing needs to fit in with our neighborhoods. In addition, careful fiscal discipline and scrupulously fair and transparent management of these homes are a must. Still, without a successful program to increase this kind of housing, the historic nature of our beloved hometown will continue to erode.

We therefore petition the Town Council to strongly support programs for community housing.
