The American Psychiatric Association in their Diagnostic and Statistical Manual currently lists Asexuality as a mental disorder AKA: "Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder".
We the undersigned,
Demand that the APA review its current policy and definition of Asexuality for the upcoming soon to be released DSM - V.
HSDD is currently being used to pathologize Asexuals when in most cases it is a healthy and legitimate sexual orientation that does not need treatment.

I am an asexual. In no way do I suffer from this nor do I see it as a disorder. It is a valid orientation.

Asexuality is not a "condition or a disorder" it is a way of life or a definition that some people identify themselves with. More concentration should be on increasing mental health services to help them and others instead of medicating them and telling them they are mentally ill.

I am asexual. This is a perfectly valid lifestyle. I am not 'sick' and I don't need treatment. What I need is acceptance by society.
Haven't your learned from all the harm that was caused by pathologizing homosexuality?

Asexuality exists, it's an orientation, there's nothing wrong with it. It's not a disorder. I just wish more sexual people would recognize that and not tell me "you just haven't had me in the sack" or "bullshit" or whatever.

Asexuality is no more a pathology than not wanting to play the accordion or join the military. Sometimes, you're just not interested in something. How does that hurt anyone? How can it hurt the individual?

It is important for those who are asexual not to have others automatically telling them there is something there is wrong with them.

Asexuality is a REAL orientation. Not a disorder. I have no interest in sex therefore I will not have it, ever. I also have no interest in smoking, camping, jumping out of an airplane, tattoos, or body piercings amongst others. I don't do those either. Are all of those considered to be a disorder? No, and neither should asexuality.

Asexual and happy to be. Would like it if we didn't have to be afraid to tell doctors, therapists, friends, family...

I am asexual and accept it totally. The real problem is in getting sexuals to accept it!

I just don't comprehend why I should be considered "sick" just becauses I do not worship sex the way most people do. I have three college degrees, I am a published author, I am fully employed and self-supporting, I do not have alcohol or drug use problems, I have never been arrested, I am a capable, hard working, productive person with integrity. Why is it a problem? Further, I know of a great many people in my acquaintance who rountinely talk, and loudly I might add, about all the "earth-shattering" sex they are getting from various and assorted persons, and yet they are not happy with life in general -- these same individuals have drinking problems, drug problems, financial problems, family problems, the list goes on... Promiscuity doesn't make life better or more complete, and the lack of sex doesn't cause difficulties. Our culture needs to grow up and accept that fact.

I am asexual. It is not a disorder and I do not need fixing. It is just the way people are sometimes, like being gay or straight, or like being transgendered or cisgendered. None of these are inherently disorders.

Being asexual doesn't mean that we have a disorder. We're perfectly capable of functioning in a social situation, while most disorders impair that ability. Asexuality is NOT a disorder!

Homosexuality was once considered a mental disorder, until people realised how wrong that was. Why should asexuals (and I speak as one myself), who are happy and healthy, be classed as having a mental disorder just becuase we do not feel sexual attraction towards anyone? This makes as much (non)sense as saying the same thing os someone just because they are sexually attracted to the same sex.
