Please sign and share this petition in an effort to ask Ohio not to pass the bill that would allow students to receive course credit in public schools for private religious education. The ACLU opposes this proposed bill because of the fear of meshing government with religion. Please sign and share to keep the two separate according to personal preference.

Ohio is considering signing a bill that would include private religious education as part of a student's course credit but doing so with create great animosity among many people. Why change the basis of a child's educational credits and stir up trouble within the lives of many. Government and religion need to be separate but passing this bill allows school districts to award up to two elective credits for religious instruction.

A spokesperson for the ACLU states that “We all know as former students and parents of current students that credits are pretty important, particularly in modern education, where there’s so much drive for skilled based education.  This is kind of giving you a free pass for your religious education." She believes that passing this bill will cause uneasiness, unconstitutional practices and many lawsuits. Do not pass this bill; keep a person's education and achieved credits in public school separate from their religious education and beliefs.

Ohio Law Legislators - Do not pass this bill that would include private religious education as part of a student's course credit. It is absurd that you would consider including religious education as part of public education and will only create a great deal of animosity among many people. Majority of your citizens consider their religious belief as very private and personal; what you are doing is meshing public education, government and religion, causing prejudice and potential lawsuits against such practices. Keep the student course credits as they have been and reconsider combining them with religion. Do not pass this bill.
