SAVE the burial mounds from DESTRUCTION by BIG BUSINESS!

Wingra Redi-Mix, Inc. has been trying for decades to destroy the ancient Ho-Chunk mound site in Wisconsin known as the "Ward Mounds." Once a grouping of seven mounds, the only one still standing today is an effigy mound of a bird. The others have been lost to Wingra's sand and gravel quarry, which surrounds the bird effigy.

Wisconsin's 1985 burial site protection law saved the final Ward Mound from destruction, but Wingra will stop at nothing to get to the $10 million worth of sand and gravel under the sacred mound. After losing 20 years worth of court cases, they are now trying to change the law to suit their needs.

Wingra has now "found" two state legislators to start a bill to force the Wisconsin Historical Society to declassify the site. If passed, Wisconsin State Assembly bill 620 would allow ancient mound sites to be destroyed in order to determine whether the site is a burial mound worthy of protection. Now does that sound logical to you?

The legislators that Wingra found to co-sponsor the bill do not even represent the district where the mounds are located. They are just the ones who would be willing to take action to destroy this Wisconsin historical site and Ho-Chunk sacred burial site.

Please sign this petition urging the Wisconsin State Legislature to vote down this absurd bill, and continue to protect sacred burial sites from corporations like Wingra.
