Zoo Mundo Arequipa: Improve your facilities or send the animals to an animal sanctuary!

For being the “best” zoo in the southern part of Peru and a “self-proclaimed” shelter for the wildlife of the region, Zoo Mundo Arequipa displays a total lack of care and empathy with the animals that it imprisons.

The dirty and very small cages where the poor and unhealthy animals pace back and forth are far from creating awareness of what conservation and protection of a species really means.

There is NO respect NOR education involved by keeping wild animals caged in deplorable conditions, totally deprived from their natural environment. The only thing visitors, especially kids, will learn is that it’s OK to keep animals in captivity when in fact it is NOT.

For this reason we ask the founder, Dr. José María Granados Soria, to make an effort to improve the condition of this place or to send the animals to wildlife sanctuaries where they will be able to live with more dignity and care.
