Demand that The Mendip Farmer's Hunt are prosecuted for their fox hounds allegedly injuring a pet dog

Hounds from the Mendip Farmer's Hunt have allegedly attacked and seriously injured a pet dog close to their kennels at Nine Barrows Lane, Priddy, Wells. The injured dog needed emergency treatment of stitches costing £200 and was traumatised.

The incident was reported to the police but "a spokesman told Somerset Live a dog on dog attack was a civil, not a criminal matter." However, in fact, the law actually states that "it is an offence for a dog owner to allow their dog to be "dangerously out of control". Based on the report from the owner of the attacked dog, it's clear the hounds were out of control in this case.

Who else but hunts would be allowed to exercise large packs of unleashed dogs in public, that are specifically trained to kill?

There have been a spate of attacks by hunting hounds on people's pets lately, when will this be stopped?

Sign the petition now to demand that the head huntsman responsible for the attacking hounds is prosecuted!

The punishment: "[The owner] can get an unlimited fine or be sent to prison for up to 6 months (or both) if [their] dog is dangerously out of control. [They] may not be allowed to own a dog in the future and [their] dog may be destroyed." We are not be asking for the offending dog to be destroyed.

The police need to reopen the case and properly investigate the Mendip Farmer's Hunt on suspicion of allowing dogs to be dangerously out of control. The victim's owner also needs to be compensated for vet bills.

It is vital that dangerous dogs be muzzled and kept on a leash this must apply to all fox hounds. Please also sign the petition for muzzling foxhounds.
