The incontestable beauty of these wonderful birds definitely works as a bait and it is sealing their own destiny, for people believe that they can endure caring for a macaw species like they would care for cats and dogs.
Uncontrollable and legal breeding of macaw species makes thousands of new babies available for sale every year in USA and is leaving its terrible scars when the same thousands of macaws are left to die in abandonment and extremelly poor conditions, locked up in small cages, being poorly fed, starving their way to death or dying of sickness with no professional veterinary care.
Uneducated people buy these beautiful birds believing them to be one more pet in the household, not realizing the amount of care, maintenance and expenditures that raising a macaw brings along, discarding them shortly after they are purchased or sending them to sanctuaries that are packed with hundreds of other neglected birds.
These birds belong in the wild and we are condemning them to live a secluded life, away from their flocks and mates, locked up in small cages and sometimes fated to die in abandonment and neglect.
Please help me raise this concern to competent authorities. The uncontrolable commercial breeding needs to stop and these wonderful birds deserve their freedom back. They belong in the wild and not in our households!
