Anita Sarkeesian has taken a stand against bias in the gaming industry and has recieved numerous death threats as her status has grown. The most recent was so egregious she was forced to cancel her speech at Utah State University for fear that, "a Montreal Massacre style attack will be carried out against the attendees, as well as students and staff at the nearby Women’s Center... the deadliest school shooting in American history..."
“Utah State University police is coordinating the threat information with other local, state and federal agencies, including the Utah Statewide Information and Analysis Center, the FBI Cyber Terrorism Task Force, and the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit,” was the official police statement.
Yet, "[a]fter a careful assessment of the threat it has been determined it is similar to other threats that Sarkeesian has received in the past, and all university business will be conducted as scheduled tomorrow.”
"Other threats" should be reason for law enforcement to be that much more vigilant in apprehending this would be school shooter. Even if the threats are a hoax they are a serious threat to free speech and normal social discourse. If they are real Ms. Sarkeesian and students are still in danger wherever she speaks.
Demand the source of these death threats be identified and brought to justice!
