Facebook: Remove Inflammatory NRA Video for Inciting Violence

The National Rifle Association has released a truly frightening recruitment video, pitting gun owners against anyone who stands against the current president and his hateful ideals. While the video never explicitly calls for violence, the implication is clear. It is a rallying cry.

All we have to do is look at the increase in violence since the election to see how unchecked violent rhetoric has real life consequences. Letting this disturbing video stay on Facebook would be extremely irresponsible and could very well lead to disastrous repercussions.

Please sign this petition demanding that Facebook remove the NRA's inflammatory recruitment video for inciting violence.

The video tries to create an "us-vs-them" narrative and pit Americans against one another. It paints liberals as liars and as violent, unruly protesters who law-abiding gun owners need protection from. In the end, the narrator concludes that "the only way we save our country and our freedom is to fight this violence of lies with a clenched fist of truth." The video then calls for viewers to join the NRA.

According to Facebook's community standards, the company will "remove content, disable accounts, and work with law enforcement when [it believes] there is a genuine risk of physical harm or direct threats to public safety." Given our heated political climate, this video carries a very genuine risk of physical harm for those who hold political beliefs that differ from the NRA. We've already seen violence increase from conservatives since the election. Letting this video incite more people is a direct threat to public safety.

Please sign this petition demanding that Facebook take the threat of violence seriously and take down the NRA's disturbing recruitment video.
