End Gas Chamber Euthanasia for Homeless Pets

Millions of homeless pets are killed every year in U.S. shelters and despite the overwhelming stance that euthanasia via gas chambers is cruel and inhumane, it is still used to end their lives.

Every animal reacts differently to gas, usually carbon monoxide, and can be subjected to prolonged fear, stress and suffering, whether they're alone or with other animals. Some have even survived only to have to endure it again.

Congressman Jim Moran recently introduced House Resolution 203, which opposes the use of gas chamber euthanasia and supports state laws that replace them with lethal injection, in addition to ensuring that training and certification in humane euthanasia methods are readily available.

Pleases sign this petition urging your representative to take a stand against this cruel and outdated practice and support a more humane alternative by co-sponsoring this resolution.

As someone who is concerned with animal welfare, I am writing to ask you to support House Resolution 203, which calls for an end to the use of gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals and supports the creation of state laws that require the use of a more humane alternative via lethal injection, in addition to ensuring training and certification in humane euthanasia methods are readily available.

Millions of homeless animals are killed in shelters every year and many states are still using this notoriously cruel and outdated practice to end their lives, which affects each animal differently and can subject them to prolonged stress and suffering, in addition to threatening the safety and well being of shelter workers. There is absolutely no reason for the shelters who use this practice to do so when there is a safer, more humane and less expensive alternative available via lethal injection.

Homeless pets have been through enough and deserve, at the very least, to be treated with compassion in the end. I sincerely hope you will support this resolution to end this barbaric practice and encourage the humane treatment of companion animals.
