Stop the Texas Board from forcing horse owners to use veterinarians for natural medicine.

Currently the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners has rules that limit the use of all homeopathic, holistic, natural, and alternative therapies except under the direct supervision of a veterinarian.
This will limit horse owners' choices and drive qualified and capable health care providers out of business. It will also increase dramatically the cost of horse ownership, and in today's economy, this hurts all horse owners.
This petition is to ask the Board to suspend enforcement of Rules 523.10 - 523.16 for 120 days and set up a committee to determine scope of practice for non-veterinarians.
We, the horse-owners of Texas, want a choice and do not want to be forced to go through a veterinarian for all health maintenance and preventative care. This should not be an area for government control over our lives and our money. It is our right to choose the path for healing our animals. PLEASE reconsider this ruling.
For the past several years, the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners have failed at their role of protecting the public interest in favor of protecting the interest of the veterinarians the Board is commissioned to supervise. During this period there has been a consolidation of power in the hands of the veterinarians while at the same time there have been great advances in the science and the public acceptance of alternative health care strategies.
This petition calls on the Board to suspend enforcement of the ban on non-veterinarins providing resposible healh care and to take a national leadership role to redefine veterinary care that can be delivered by non-veterinarians by forming an advisory committee that includes lay people to define the scope of practice of non-veterinarans.
