Crosswalk Awareness

  • recipient: Let the City know we want-demand-need results.

With the recent accident involving Abigail Gilmore, a 6 year old girl who was struck by a truck while crossing the road to get to her school bus, we need to take action. Now. This was a preventable accident. Which is completely devastating. Poor Abigail and her family have gone through so much. After talking with some local residents in the area. It has been brought to our attention that complaints have been made to the city regarding this exact location/crosswalk over the last few years. - Nothing has been done so far. The school district needs to reconsider the location of the school bus stops and pick ups. This particular location is near the highway with a couple different subdivisions nearby. Including a park only blocks away. Although close to the highway. This is an area that is filled with families. Children, grandparents, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. The cross walk that the accident happened at has no markings on the street. No signage. No flashing lights. Lets, as a community help make the change for the better. To prevent tragedies like Abigail's. All prayers and thoughts are with the family and Abigail.

On Sunday September 28, 2014 at 11:00am we are lobbying an event to take place at city hall. Just to make a presence. Let the city know that we take our children's safety very serious. That we want - demand and need this issue dealt with. Please sign the petition to show the city how serious we are. A couple minutes of your time WILL create change. It will help children cross safer. It will change lives. Again, spread the word about the event at City Hall. And please. Make a stand. Every person standing together shows that much stronger. Children are more than welcomed. In fact, encouraged to be there.

Tell your friends, family and co-workers. This is a beautiful city. With a great community attitude. Lets band together and make this happen.
