Eufaula High School: Let Bryce Take His Grandma to the Prom!

  • by: Aarti K.

Bryce Maine knew right away who he wanted to take to prom: his grandma. She’d never been to prom before, so it was an easy 'yes’ for her. The two made plans for the evening, and she even bought a dress. Then the high school said she couldn’t come.

Despite backlash, Eufaula High School won’t bend its '20-years-old-and-under' age limit, a policy in place to try to prevent access to alcohol. There’s also concern that other students will “make the school a mockery” by bringing their own grandparents as a joke.

The school’s strict adherence to the rules has turned a sweet gesture into unnecessary controversy. Eufaula High School should support Bryce’s choice to bring his grandma to prom. Close family relationships across generations are healthy and should be encouraged!
