Carers Allowance for those on a Pension

  • by: Terence Bayliffe

It us unfair and unjust when those who reach retirement age, having worked all their lives to earn their state pension ,cannot claim Carers Allowance.
The Government argue that if you receive a State Pension it is classed as a benefit even though you paid for it through work. Therefore if your relative is sick and you need to care for them often 24/7 you can only take your pension which disqualifies your right to Carers Allowance. This is a disgrace to the rights of people who through their own hard work over at least forty years are blocked from any financial support ,even though it is saving the State hundreds of pounds per week.
