Fine North Carolina Dairy Farm for Extreme Cow Abuse!

  • by: Chris Wolverton
  • recipient: North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

An undercover investigation of a North Carolina dairy farm that supplies milk to supermarket chain Harris Teeter revealed stomach-turning, extreme abuse of their animals. Footage shows cows wading through a knee-deep and growing pool of their own urine and feces just to eat, while standing in the waste. They have no bedding and no escape from the disgusting stench. When the corrosive waste dries, it leaves sores and ulcers on the cows' skin.

Cows are also forced to stand on metal grates while they're being milked. Dairy staff are unable to completely clean the waste from the cows' udders before they are milked, compromising the safety of their products and endangering humans who consume them.

The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources investigated and verified what was shown in the undercover report and footage, and gave the farm 10 days to clean up their act. They are also considering a fine. Please sign the petition to urge the agency to fine the dairy so this type of abuse never happens again!
