Mandatory Sex Education for SEN students

  • by: Leo Ofori

If sex education if left as a mere option for special needs schools and colleges, these institutions are not obliged to issue it to their students. Therefore special needs students have no idea how to manage sexual encounters that inevitably happen once they become independent. These teenagers will mix with the neurotypical population and are vulnerable to neuro typical individuals encouraging and even manipulating them into having unprotected sex. It has happened before and the consequences can be unfortunate for any special needs person who was never taught about, pregnancy, sexual infections or how to deal with strangers approaching them for sex.
