Tell San Francisco's Sheriff Not to End the City's Sanctuary City Policy!

New San Francisco Sheriff Vicki Hennessy is considering ending the city's sanctuary city status.

A sanctuary city shelters illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement officials. In a sanctuary city, police will refuse to continue detaining individuals just because they are in the country illegally.

I am a San Francisco resident, and I believe sanctuary cities are fundamentally important for the well-being of individuals and even our economy. These cities eschew federal laws that seek to criminalize people over accident of birth. Contrary to what many think, immigrants are no more likely to be violent than the general population, and it is immoral to treat them otherwise. Many immigrants come to the U.S. because they are fleeing violence, unstable communities, or a lack of job opportunities.

If San Francisco's sheriff succeeds in rescinding this policy, it will mean the end of San Francisco's liberal and compassionate stance toward people who are coming to the U.S. to build a better life for themselves, boosting our economy in the process.

Sheriff Hennessy,

I urge you not to end San Francisco's sanctuary city status. Sanctuary cities are fundamentally important for the well-being of individuals and even our economy. San Francisco should continue to eschew federal laws that seek to criminalize people over accident of birth. Immigrants are no more likely to be violent than the general population, and it is immoral to treat them otherwise. Many immigrants come to the U.S. because they are fleeing violence, unstable communities, or a lack of job opportunities.

If you succeed in rescinding this policy, it will mean the end of San Francisco's liberal and compassionate stance toward people who are coming to the U.S. to build a better life for themselves, boosting our economy in the process. I urge you to reconsider your stance. Thank you.
