NUTRO is more interested in their bottom line than helping DESPERATE non profit rescues. The policy of contracting with Retail Giant "BIG LOTS" for all the "out of date" inventory that previously was donated on a monthly basis to approved 501c(3) rescues makes it extremely hard for struggling rescues to continue to operate. NUTRO states that they contribute to RESCUE BANK, but this is only on a random schedule and distribution is only a couple of times per year with only 1-2 pallets of food going to each approved rescue. ( I always have 30-50 animals in my care..feeding 100 lbs per day. 1 pallet of 40 bags will last approx 3.5 weeks) Before this new policy of contracting with BIG LOTS, rescues could send in food requests each month and receive food. Damaged product was also sometimes donated but it also was/is shipped to a Memphis, TN pig farm. Why do rescues not have the opportunity to at least purchase at the same contract price as BIG LOTS? This has CRIPPLED my rescue. The money that was being saved from food costs went to VETTING, SPAY & NEUTER, HEART WORM TREATMENT and KENNEL REPAIR. NUTRO's decision to SELL rather than DONATE, literally takes food out of the mouths of rescue animals. Those animals in cages, sitting in KILL facilities, are the ones that need help. It is non profit rescues that answer the call . This puts more stress and burden on the rescues that are in the trenches every day that witness first hand all the heartbreak ,ugliness and slaughter. IS IT NOT THE--> ANIMALS that give this company it's FOUNDATION? it's MISSION? GUESS NOT...their only concern is about making as much money as they can and forgetting about the "VOICELESS". I am only one rescue that is trying to make a difference in the lives of a terrified animal. The ones that owners' dumped, fought, starved..the seniors that are no longer valued, the blind and deaf pets that are TOO much responsibility for someone to shoulder. IMAGINE HOW MUCH MONEY NUTRO COULD MAKE IF THE MILLIONS OF SHELTER AND RESCUE ANIMALS COULD BE SAVED AND PLACED IN FOREVER HOMES OF LOVING FAMILIES THAT PURCHASE DOG FOOD?????
