Treating Child Maltreatment in Public Schools

    The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations when it comes to abuse and neglect in childhood. 63% of child victims experience neglect,18.9% physical abuse, 9.9% sexual abuse, and suffer from4.9% emotionally or psychological abuse. The earlier a trauma occurs, the more difficult it is for the child to recover. The effects of trama cause fro child maltreatment can cause problems in different aspects of a child's life, such as physical and emotional development, play, behavior, relationships, and mental health. This petition is to provide treatment for trauma caused by child maltreatment within public schools so that children can be better equipped on how to self regulate and have healthy relationships in the future. The NASW Social Work Code of Ethics Values says that social workers' primary goal is to address social problems. Treatment for child maltreatment victims should be a priority to ensure that children can grow up and build healthy and function relationships I the future.
