Every April, millions of hard-working Americans dread the time-consuming, tedious and often expensive process of filing taxes. Americans have to spend time picking through their tax forms and counting up their receipts to take advantage of the rebates they deserve, or shell out money for tax preparation services. Can't there be a simpler way to file taxes without worrying about missing out on refunds?
On April 13, 2016, Senator Elizabeth Warren introduced the Tax Filing Simplification Act of 2016. The Act would simplify and reduce the costs of tax filing by allowing Americans to file and prepare their taxes directly with the federal government. It would also prevent the IRS from entering into agreements that would restrict it from providing free online tax preparation and filing services.
