Road salt negatively affects the environment ie: water quality and vegetation near roadways and any runoff also affects plant and animals life. There is also the rust issue, you often see cars just a few years old with rust the cost to Repair or replace these cars is not cheap the other issue is once the temps dip much below 30 is salt starts to become ineffective .. Solution many states have gotten away from salt and brine by using sand and very small gravel , the road may not be clear and dry in the winter but you can drive and we are not killing our environment , cars and trucks.
