Modernize Lobster Laws Now!

The proposed update modernize Massachusetts’ law to permit:
• The in state possession, processing, sale, and transportation of cooked, blanched, and frozen in-shell lobster parts,
• The display and sale of previously frozen raw in-shell tails by retailers,
• Licensed and regulated processors the flexibility to transport and sell green parts between facilities for processing purposes.

Similar laws in other states have produced jobs, attracted investment in processing infrastructure, and created local outlets for lobsters. Moreover, updating laws has allowed companies like ours to make the most efficient use of facilities and to put the maximum number of people to work.

I have exciting news. There is a bill in front of the Senate that is vital to the Commonwealth’s lobster industry. Senate Bill S469 should reach the Senate floor by the end of January. This bill modernizes lobster laws so Massachusetts companies will no longer be at a competitive disadvantage with companies in other states.

Similar laws in other states have produced jobs, attracted investment in processing infrastructure, and created local outlets for lobsters. Moreover, updating laws has allowed companies to make the most efficient use of facilities and to put the maximum number of people to work.

We are very appreciative that so many people care about the lobster industry and Massachusetts fisheries. Please join us, along with the Massachusetts Lobsterman’s Association and others, in support of this important bill.
