But We Want to Help Poor Countries Avoid Climate Change!

  • by: Lynn Hamilton

Republicans have already found a way to disembowel any positive change that might come out of the Paris Climate Summit, currently underway. President Obama and other world leaders have been attending the summit which aims to solve the problem of climate change and stop the planet from becoming uninhabitable. One thing many of them agree on is that rich countries like the US should provide financial aid to poor countries that will allow them to quit polluting and contributing to devastating climate change.

Republicans, however, have a devious plan already in place to stop the US from assisting poor countries in this way. Republican Senator John Barrasso is already gloating about stopping aid to those in need: "We want to make sure that any of these countries that think they’re going to have a check to cash because of an agreement that the president may make in Paris — that they shouldn’t cash the check just yet," Barrasso told the media. Please join with me in telling the Republicans involved in this conspiracy just how appalled you are that they want to withhold aid to poor countries--aid which will save us all in the end. Please act now. The summit concludes on December 11.

Dear Senator Barrasso:

We the undersigned are absolutely appalled that you want to withhold US aid to poorer countries. We are talking about aid that will help these countries decarbonize and stem the terrible consequences of global warming. It appears you are genuinely gleeful about a strategy for invalidating the goals and mission of the Paris Climate Summit. This is the last thing you should take pride in. Your actions are just bringing the earth ever closer to a disaster from which we will never recover. Please understand that climate change has consequences for you and your children and grandchildren. If unchecked, it will make the earth uninhabitable.
