When the school calls for a pep rally, they cut APP out of the daily schedule for that day and force the entire (high) school to attend the rally. This dramatic schedule change can cause great stress to many people, due to a number of effects. Persons who have activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, scheduled during the time in which the rally seizes, are greatly inconvenienced, leading to effects ranging from mild irritation to drastic disruption. Another way pep rallies negatively affect the student population is the shearing of APP, the period in which many students complete their unfinished projects, finish their homework, make up tests, or work on their art pieces. Pep Rallies are abominations that greatly annoy almost every student forced to attend.
This petition offers two solutions for the resolution of the dissatisfaction of the student body: 1) Abolish pep rallies completely, and all assemblies which follow the form or structure of a rally; 2) Transform pep rallies into after-school events that may be attended by all those who wish to attend, and leave the rest of the schedule intact. The usual schedule is healthy and functioning, and nothing warrants a drastic and annoying change to it, usually without much warning.
