Vote NO on the latest Aquaculture License Application in Planting Island Cove

The area around Planting Island is used by residents, guests, and visitors extensively for recreation. An integral part of this area are the waterways surrounding the island which offer family-friendly areas for swimming, boating, and sightseeing. A new application for an aquaculture license is being sought that will directly affect this area in a negative way.

This petition opposes the Aquaculture License Application filed by Chris Bryant on 09/29/2016.

The proposed aquaculture farm will adversely affect the use of these waterways by:

  • Interfering with navigation.  Specifically, when entering or exiting Planting Island Cove.  The shellfish farm proposed in this new application would be located in the middle of a well-established and frequently used route by boaters. This is of special concern in low visibility conditions, and under certain wind conditions where a boat under sail could not alter course appropriately to avoid the floating cages.

  • Detracting from the island's natural beauty.

  • Preventing swimming and other watersports to be enjoyed in this area.

For these reasons, the proposed Aquaculture farm would have a detrimental impact on the surrounding area. I respectfully urge you to vote AGAINST the Aquaculture License Application filed by Chris Bryant on 09/29/2016.
