A recent report in the magazine Mother Jones - based on an investigation by the Cornucopia Institute - exposes the fact that much of the processed soy used in various brands of veggie burgers is produced using an oil processing byproduct and neurotoxin: HEXANE! (It even sounds nasty.) Hexane is the least expensive (cheapest) way to remove oil from the soy protein, thus bringing down the fat content of the soy product. Cornucopia Institute senior researcher Charlotte Vallaeys, "If a non-organic product contains a soy protein isolate, soy protein concentrate, or texturized vegetable protein, you can be pretty sure it was made using soy beans that were made with hexane."

Made using Hexane: Amy's Kitchen, Boca Burger (conventional), Franklin Farms, Garden Burger, It’s All Good Lightlife, Morningstar Farms, President’s Choice, Taste Above, Trader Joe's, Yves Veggie Cuisine

We are asking that the manufacturers of these products discontinue using such a hazardous chemical with the food that we eat. It is much too easy for something wrong to lead to a serious tragedy. There are other ways to remove the fat from soy products - the oragnic process is only one example! We will not consume any of these products until hexane has been removed from your system completely!
