Support the American Clean Energy & Security Act

We, the undersigned, support the American Clean Energy & Security Act.
Please remember that every application has its strengths and weaknesses.  Solar and wind power are best applied in a distributed manner on rooftops throughout the country.  Methane capture is best applied in sewage plants throughout the country.  Nuclear and nuclear hybrid plants are best applied as base load plants surrounded by wildlife refuges dedicated to endangered and extirpated species.

As a voting constituent, I believe that now is the time to pass this comprehensive energy bill, which will set us on a path to create millions of well-paying jobs, improve national security by reducing our dependence on oil, and protect the planet.

  • Pennsylvania creates more global climate change pollution than all but 2 other states and 13 other nations, so our leaders have a responsibility to act.
  • Fossil fuel emissions cause and exacerbate many illnesses; western Pennsylvanians are 300 times more likely to have respiratory problems, such as asthma and allergies, due 2 of the top ten most polluting and 3 of the top 20 coal fired plants in the country being located in South-western Pennsylvania.
  • Senators Casey and Specter should help strengthen and pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act while cutting the pollution that fuels global climate change.

Please ensure the American Clean Energy & Security Act:

1.     Provides a national framework to address the growing threat of global climate change and includes important provisions to help protect consumers, workers, and businesses in our transition to a clean energy economy.

2.     Takes strong steps toward reducing the greenhouse gases emissions triggering climate change and establishes an important new funding stream to safeguard our wildlife and natural resources threatened by global climate change.

3.     Creates jobs; spurs our economic recovery and makes our country energy independent, develops whole new industries, and protects the health of people and the planet.

4.     Moves us to a clean energy future that will make America a global leader for the 21st century, instead of being stuck with 19th century technologies and dirty fuel.

5.     Establishes EPA global climate change regulations and charges the EPA with reducing emissions, such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and mercury, from coal plants and other industries.

6.     Sets a clear policy that locks in emission reductions through mid-century.

7.     Puts Americans back to work rebuilding our energy infrastructure for the 21st century, moves us away from cars and trucks and into safe, secure, and convenient subway systems and light rail in sustainable communities.

8.     Frees us from our dependence on foreign oil by moving us away from carbon-based fuels.

9.     Establishes America as a leader in clean energy technologies and unleashes our clean energy future.

10.  Addresses the catastrophic threats of run-away global climate change.

11.  Reduces greenhouse gases.

12.  Holds polluters accountable; makes polluters pay for the costs of dumping carbon pollution into the air.

13.  Creates a whole new clean energy industry and the businesses and jobs to support it.

14.  Safeguards the natural resources upon which our communities and wild lands depend.

15.  Increases investment in green jobs and in protecting vulnerable communities against the impacts of global climate change.

16.  Improves the renewable energy standard and requires nuclear waste reprocessing and reuse.

17.  Sets a declining cap on global climate change pollution at 30% below 2005 levels by 2020 and 93% by 2050.

18.  Rewards clean energy innovation, spurring investments in low-carbon energy technologies and creating new manufacturing jobs.

19.  Promotes clean energy by requiring that 20% of electricity comes from a combination of renewable sources, such as methane capture, (cow manure, human waste at sewage plants, plasma torching garbage) and building-based wind and solar, 20% from energy efficiency, and 40% comes from nuclear energy by 2020 (20% with hydrogen capture by 2030).

20.  Provides an incentive for other countries to limit their emissions, by imposing fees on carbon-intensive imports from nations that haven’t adopted their own greenhouse gas cap.

21.  Cuts waste and saving billions of dollars in energy costs for consumers and businesses.

22.  Does not subsidize the coal industry.

23.  Restores EPA oversight of carbon offsets that relate to farming.

24.  Auctions 100% free pollution permits to polluters and uses these funds to create more clean energy jobs in America.

25.  Establishes a Clean Energy Deployment Administration (CEDA) that would accelerate the development of new nuclear power plants and other clean energy projects.

26.  Establishes wildlife refuges around all nuclear power plants that cater to extirpated and endangered wildlife and plants, such as wolves and cougars.

27.  Recycle 100% of our waste.
