Stop Exploiting Live Sharks at Traveling Fairs

Sharks are some of the largest fish in the ocean. These apex predators are part of our ecosystem whose natural habitat is the deep blue sea.  Sharks do not belong in tiny tanks being hauled from state to state for the Philip Peters' Haai Shark Encounter.

When confined for these unnatural encounters, sharks are deprived of the environment they deserve, swimming freely to hunt and forage for food.  The last thing they need is to be confined to these tiny tanks, traveling everywhere and being exposed to crowds and noise disturbances.

It is not uncommon for people to bang on a tank to get a rise out of the shark, which is extremely stressful for the animal. Nurse sharks are typically the type used for these encounters and they are known to be extremely bashful and stressed around humans. Yet, these encounters involved constant human contact when their fins and tails are tugged on during their exhibition.

Help us urge the Spokane County Interstate Fair to cancel the traveling shark exhibit. Additionally, Philipp Peters of the Haai Shark Encounter should stop the practice of these shark encounters.

These animals do not deserve this inhumane treatment, but should be kept in their natural habitat to live freely in the oceans.  If enough of us take action, we can force Spokane County to listen to us - the fair is a publicly owned institution, and should be accountable to their constituents!

Please stop these Haai Shark Encounters at various fairgrounds around the nation.  When confined for these unnatural encounters, sharks are deprived of the environment they deserve, swimming freely to hunt and forage for food.  The last thing they need is to be confined to these tiny tanks, traveling everywhere and being exposed to crowds and noise disturbances.
