Don't Pass the "Kill the Gays" Bill!

Uganda's Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, is pushing a vote on the "Kill the Gays" Bill as soon as possible. She wanted the bill to be passed before the end of the year as a "Christmas gift" to the people, and stated that she doesn't care about Western countries threatening to remove aid if it does indeed pass.

This bill is very extreme, and calls for the death penalty or being arrested for being gay or committing an "illegal sex act." "Aggravated homosexuality" can also lead to the death penalty. People are charged with this when multiple violations happen, which can include actions such as renting a room to a gay person, donating to a gay cause, fighting for gay rights (even if it's just through the internet) or not reporting a gay person to law enforcement. Straight individuals can be charged with these offenses as well.

Please tell Rebecca Kadaga this bill is no gift -- no one deserves to die just for being who they are.

Dear Uganda's Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga,

Please do not advocate for passing the "Kill the Gays" Bill as a "gift." This bill would lead to the executions of individuals just for being gay, and because of wording in the bill could lead to the deaths of individuals who simply do things such as renting a room to a gay person or not reporting them to the police for being gay.

Everyone deserves to be able to be who they are in peace. No one deserves to die for who they love.

Thank you for your time.
