Kate Clark,Cadw / Senedd Assembly For Wales,Please refuse Conwy Council's 2nd Demolition Application

  • by: Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust Campaign
  • recipient: This petition is to be sent to the head of CADW and the Welsh Assembly Government in Preparation of Conwy county Council's plans Against the Colwyn Victoria Pier and the community to demolish this Historic Grade II listed Building.

This petition will be sent to Katie Clark, Cadw,Carl Seargant,The Senedd National Asembly For Wales and the (HLF) Heritage Lottery Fund Governing body.

We are asking people to sign from their hearts, each town, community has something they love or want to keep or save,For Colwyn Bay it's a Victorian listed Pier.
For many people who have lived or travelled to North Wales over the years, they will have noticed this fantastic old Victorian Pier. However This Pier is now literally fighting for it's life, and we want to save it from the bulldozers, and have it dismantled, repaired and rebuilt.
This threat of losing something you love can happen in any town, any city or country,Sadly when it is gone, it's gone.
The Pier Trust has a fantastic plan to restore the Pier but also a plan of survival for it's future, and as a community all we are asking is for that chance.
Our Town Council has been fantastic as have a number of Councillors, Mps and Assembly Members, and the community.

Sadly Conwy Council have been cited as one of the reasons the HLF Grant for restoration was turned down. And now despite the Welsh Government And Cadw turning down demolition, stating that they need to restore 4 bays of the pier and work with the Pier trust, they are refusing to work with the Trust and Welsh Government and are preparing a second demolition application, rather than restoration. The Trust are asking for the Dismantling of the Pier, assessment repair, and then re building, not demolition.

The community are trying to save the Pier and at the same time the Council are submitting an application to demolish the Pier.

Please help us stop this madness and sign our petition to save this historic landmark,This could be happening in your town next,we must fight together to stop this happening.

Having leased with CADW we have been advised to send this Petition in to them, but also to the assembly for wales, in preparation of Conwy County Council's 2nd request for permission to demolish this Historic Grade II Listed Landmark.

Thank you for taking the time to read this appeal, and to all the people who have signed this petition from all over the world, thank you for kind words and support.

Just to update everyone, the petition has now been re started, so please share on Facebook and twitter, sadly Conwy County Council have failed to follow the advice of Cadw and The Welsh Assembly Government, who refused demolition and advised the council to work with The Victoria Pier Trust and The Town Council and save more of the Pier and support the trust in applying for grants.Sadly the council have cut off all contact with the trust and are submitting a new Demolition application.
