SCRA Must Vote

We the undersigned are Voting Members of the Stanford Campus Recreation Association (SCRA).

We are deeply concerned by the delay of a scheduled vote on the matter of Special Team Memberships. This is an issue that must be decided fairly by a vote of the members.  As stated by the outgoing Board President, the question to be voted on should read:

Should SCRA create a new class of Special Team Only Memberships to allow non-members to participate in the swim and tennis programs above and beyond the 15% rule established for tax-exempt social clubs?

We strongly urge the newly-elected Board of Directors to mail out the ballot immediately, along with accompanying PRO and CON statements, as promised by the previous Board President at the Annual Meeting and by letter. Failure to do so raises serious questions about this Board's intentions and willingness to act in the interest of all members.

According to the schedule, ballots are not due to be returned until March 30th. Provided the vote proceeds as scheduled, we welcome a fair and balanced meeting of the members to discuss both sides of this important issue before the March 30th deadline.  This discussion must not, however, be used as an excuse to delay the vote.

Update #19 years ago
UPDATE: the situation at SCRA is now being investigated by Vice Provost Tim Warner and Provost John Etchemendy. It is important that all voices be heard on the matter of Special Memberships and the future direction of SCRA. If you wish to speak to these issues please send an email directly to Tim Warner trw@stanford.edu and John Etchemendy etch@stanford.edu with your thoughts.
