URGENT: Help me save this mama bear from Colorado's harsh 2 strikes law!

After starting the morning happy and excited because I was able to see a mama bear with her 2 cubs through a window in our neighborhood, I now find myself broken hearted. Bursting in tears! This bear might be killed if we don't help.

Colorado has a Two Strikes Law for bears. If a wild animal is relocated for being in a neighborhood or too close to humans, it is tagged. If it's found again, it is EUTHANIZED!

Apparently, this mama bear has been captured by wildlife agents before. Despite showing no aggression today, they want to capture and kill her. I have made calls, spoken to the State wildlife ranger that was here. They say there is nothing we can do!

I disagree - if enough of us sign this petition, we can show the Colorado Parks and Wildlife director and Governor Hickenlooper that the public opposes their aggressive policy of killing peaceful bears! Due to encroaching development, a lack of forage due to drought-like conditions and a rising population, the state is killing more and more bears. Please act now!

If we aren't succesful, the mama bear will be killed, her cubs will get sent to a rehab center through fall and winter; then in the spring get released....

This bear wasn't behaving aggressively this morning - though apparently she was reported to have charged someone the first time she was captured. Despite humans invading her habitat, she is simply doing her job of taking care of her cubs....

Colorado's Two Strikes Policy for bears found in human areas is cruel and inhumane. Peaceful bears should not be killed without reason. As Colorado continues to develop, we're expanding into bear territory. This policy ignores that reality and forces the bears to pay the price for our incursions. Please spare the mama bear that was reported to your agency on 9/22/15 in Boulder and reexamine and adjust this policy to save wildlife.

Update #18 years ago
Really sad news folks - The mama bear (bear 317 according to CO Parks and Wildlife) was captured and shot yesterday. Thank you so much for your petition signatures, but in this case, they weren't enough.

We need to convince the state to change their harsh policy, and spare other bears this horrible fate.
