Keep Canandaigua Lake levels higher

  • by: Art B
  • recipient: Mayor Ellen Polimeni (Canandaigua City Council)

For the last several years the City of Canandaigua which controls the lake levels has emptied the lake starting in August referring to a Corp of Engineers "Curve". Well I cannot find out anywhere or from anyone any reason to drop the lake levels that early in the fall. There are easily another three months of boating and fishing and other maintenance jobs needed to be done. People get stuck in their boathouses, stuck in their boat hoists with no way to use the Lake. This belongs to the People of the State of New York not a few home owners that built too close to the mean water level. There is No reason to do this. After Labor Day the lake drops like a rock, I don't care what the curve says it drops significantly. This is a beautiful time of the year when the crowds disappear and people who live in Canandaigua get to enjoy the lake in our backyard.

Keep the Lake at it's season mean level until November 1st each year.
