Better must come to CCLCS
Highlighted below are the issues faced by the students of Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies.
Through your support, it is the intention that this petition can get the attention of those with the responsibility and resources to bring about the necessary changes that this institution needs.
Please read the point listed to understand the frustration of students at institution.
1)The Student Guild is being micro managed by the Director and his management team, to the extent that from since 2016 there has been no official accounting information presented to the Guild of past or present and students are continuously paying guild fees.
2)During recent exams, though a schedule would have been posted weeks before, in the middle of exams the school made an executive decision to move EXAMS from the Western wing of the Institution to the east to facilitate construction of some type, no regards for students and the reason I make this claim is the fact, that the institution currently rents a space to the Rivers of Living water who are mostly Spanish speaking children who of course do make noise which is a total travesty, also the school had the greatest of respect by having OJT training sessions during this same period, which limits our access to all amenities inclusive of the canteen and other areas normally utilised for studies. NONE of the above ever communicated to students, we just have to accept whatever is done.
3) The institution CONSTANTLY plans activities that are quote on quote geared towards student development however we mostly find out after the activity would have surpassed on the same day.
4) The institution has the privilege of having two libraries, ILO and there own, both which are badly in shape and do not have the requisite books needed for a great student experience, the library has 6 working computers so satisfy the need of all the students. Could you imagine the frustration during exam time. The library offers printing services which is often not efficient, either no paper or toner and that was the reality for 3 quarts of this semester.
5) Most the classes have no working ac units and the fresh air can't be utilized as the windows are fastened permanently.
6) Fresh drinking water is not available to students, who are the most important stakeholders
7) Water breaches the property in many places when rain come, so we often ask for sunlight.
8) Every time the school makes a decision to rent its property during school hours day or night students are most affected.
9)Students have been attending CCLCS for over 10 yrs in some instances and can't complete a degree, the goal post keep moving just as they think they've completed.
10)No sick bay provided for students, totally against the OSH Act as amended #3 of 2006.
11) Students being harassed by security to show ID once entering, while all other users get a free past, just recently students preparing for exams observed people driving straight past the security check point on a Sunday only to be asked to show their ID and sign to say they are on the compounds, the School seem to forget the institution was built for the purposes of student development.
12)Lectures being Suspended MID SEMESTER because they speak out against the ills being repeated constantly, students receive no replacement yet had to sit exams.
13)The full-time population is a mere 50 persons, the school markets itself for evening persons and at times try forcing Full time students to do part time lectures.
14)The general consensus by all o the ground is that the Registrar, Student services and Administration departments have NO respect for students, as it pertains to communication and the attitude displayed by most who work in those areas.
15)Younger students constantly loses interest and downgrade their areas of study, transfer out the institution or lose hope in further education.
16) Lack of security throughout the entire campus, No armed in the event of a major crisis occurring,Lighting at evening is not sufficient to meet the desired requirement.
17) Library hours at he institution is not in accordance with students needs and desire. Open late when morning sessions would have already resume and many a times it closes early for reasons unknown.
18) The Minister of Labour who visits time to time is always swiftly taken away to the more comfortable areas of the college and never really get to ineract with students to hear our concerns.
19)All social activities organised by the school or the guild has been disbanded since 2017.
20) All campuses owned and operated by CCLCS ie, Valsayn North and Tobago has serious health and safety issues that need to be addressed in earnest.
21) Many students are still unaware of who the Director is along with members of the board and management team, after 2 yrs plus on the job.
22)Equipment necessary to keep sessions are often NOT working, Projectors, connecting cords or adopters, students are forced to assist in these areas to get the class going.
23) Students are not considered or utilized as part of the marketing strategy for the Institution
24) No matter what is the concern of students, No one ever knows, people shy away from responsibility
25) The student guild hall could be described as a store room, No working AC, not enough furniture.
26)ALL STUDENTS on completing their areas of study are not given the opportunity to walk the STAGE, I have been reliably informed from persons on previous committees a select number is determined, the school then finds all type of reasons to deny students opportunity, from late registration for graduation, to not in good standing as it relates to GPA
27) Student Shuttle, more like staff shuttle and OJT. Students at times would be left waiting because no seats, During exam there is a (3) three exam per day schedule however the shuttle only facilitate the normal runs. morning at 7:30 / 8 am and evenings. Students have asked constantly that such be facilitated during this period.
28)The last exam for a calendar year, (2) to semesters ends in May, however Graduation s November, which students have been saying for years is unreasonable.
29) Foreign Students can't access insurance even though would pay annual fees toward same.
30) NO Wi-Fi throughout the entire campus for students to access
