Please Reconsider Selling Shirts in NC Highlighting Shark Attacks

A store owner in Oak Island, NC was considering selling some t-shirts that state “SHARK ATTACK” and have an image of a shark with the words “OAK ISLAND, NC” underneath. It seems all sweet and innocent but may be in poor taste in light of the fact that there were a few recent shark attacks right in the area. Two of the attacks were of a serious nature; 12-year-old Kiersten Yow of Archdale lost a portion of her left arm below the elbow and suffered injuries to her left leg. Hunter Treschel, a 16-year-old boy from Colorado Springs, Colorado had his arm amputated beneath the shoulder.

The assistant manager of the store, Terri Rowell stated that the decals for the shirts were ordered prior to the attacks and means no disrespect but it just seems to be in poor taste in light of these recent attacks. These attacks were of very serious nature and it would be the proper and ethical thing to do to stop the sale of these shirts. You can help to speak out to the manager of this shop by signing and sharing this petition.

Oak Island Eagles, Attn: Terri Rowell – Please have consideration for the two most recent victims of shark attacks, losing limbs, and remove the shark attack shirts from your store floor. Do not sell these items. Just imagine the trauma and serious injuries these attack victims endured. Stop selling these shirts out of respect because it is the right and ethical thing to do.
