As you all know, Walnut Elementary is a magnet school in Turlock, CA. One year ago, our kids got a new principal Mr. Sumeet Singh. Walnut Elementary has a saying that says "Only at Walnut." We have that saying because we do things that no other school does in Turlock. We have a very large Carnival, Christmas plays, Talent Shows, Musicals, etc. This is due in part to the wonderful PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) that we have at Walnut.
For the 2017-2018 School Year, the PTO raised a total of approximately $162,000 for our school. This money paid for field trips, school supplies, 6th Grade Dance, the many School Clubs we have (R.A.D., Walking Club, Spelling Bee, Yearbook, Odyssey of the Mind, etc.), Playground Equipment, Track, Student Incentives and much more.
This year Mr. Singh has kicked the PTO off the campus, they no longer have the office they have used for the last 11 years, they no longer have an area to keep the shirts they get for us each year, they can't even hold their meetings to plan our events for the year without getting prior approval to be on the campus during normal hours. As you all know, the PTO board is completely volunteer and we have some amazing board members who put a lot of time and effort into helping make Walnut into what it is today. Unfortunately, we are hearing that Mr. Singh plans to do away with the PTO Board completely. This is a sad unfortunate situation that we find outself in. If this happens, Walnut will no longer be in a league of it's own and will be just like other schools and not be special.
