Demand the right for Cities to allow their citizens to live!

In short, the issue at hand here is that in the state of Missouri ever since August of last year it has been deemed "illegal" for small municipalities to set their own livable wage laws separate from that of the states wage of a measly $7.75/hour. This is an issue especially in the state of Missouri because there are so many vastly different communities that have far different costs of living since we have incredibly urban AND rural areas in our state. For example, in St. Louis City for one adult someone needs to make as much as $11.06 an hour to just simply survive whereas in Boone County which is more ruralized you only need $10.64 an hour to live. This may not sound like a very drastic difference but it really is, that extra $0.42 makes a drastic difference when added up. Because businesses will naturally want to cut costs, they will typically pay the very minimum amount to their employees and therefore even someone who works a 40 hour week won't make even somewhat close enough to survive in either county. More so in St. Louis city though which one will see more rates of poverty and homelessness because St. Louis cannot set their own wage laws to account for their smaller economy versus that of the state. It simply does not make sense to make all cities and counties adhere to the same wage laws given that each has far different circumstances.

Update #15 years ago
I want to thank everyone who has supported the cause so far for the enactment of living wage laws! However, I want to remind people that although your support helps, we need more publicity on the petition in order to get support, we have got to get it out there more and that can only happen if you all pitch in and share it with your friends and family!
