End DeChristopher's Unjust Incarceration

Activist Tim DeChristopher, imprisoned for what many consider a heroic act, was just released from solitary confinement, following outcry from supporters.

Led by DeChristopher’s minister, these supporters are now demanding an investigation into why he was isolated in the first place.

Several news sources say his move to restricted confinement stemmed from a call by an unnamed congressman requesting an investigation into an email DeChristopher wrote, even though that email is further testimony to DeChristopher’s heroism. He wrote it to question the ethics of a contributor to his legal defense fund.

DeChristopher is considered by many to be unjustly punished for something oil companies routinely get away with, that is, they bid on leases without paying - and worse, says DeChristopher’s attorney, they fix bids to keep their prices down. These arguments will be raised at his appeal in May.

Tell Congress to investigate and end the unjust incarceration of Tim DeChristopher.

We, the undersigned, agree with DeChristopher's supporters that the circumstances surrounding his recent move into maximun security should be investigated.

Reports that a phone call from an unnamed Congressman is what led to DeChristopher's isolation certainly justify the congressional committee inquiry defense attorney Pat Shea is calling for. We, along with DeChristopher's minister, his attorney and other supporters want to know exactly "who has the audacity to interfere with our justice system."

Even without this latest punishment, the circumstances surrounding DeChristopher's incarceration are bizarre enough as is. Not only is this eco-activist no threat or danger to anyone, he is considered a hero by a growing number of supporters, as well as a political prisoner by some.

In light of defense attorney Pat Shea's evidence that oil companies often do what DeChristopher was thrown in jail for and far worse, without suffering any consequences, we believe there is no reason to wait until May to bring these arguments forward in an appeal. We believe DeChristopher should be freed at once.

We request not only an investigation into the questionable circumstances surrounding DeChristopher's recent move to isolation, but that he be pardoned and freed immediately.

Thank you for your attention to these important concerns.
