Annie is a basset hound who has suffered horrible abuse.

Justice for Annie the basset hound

Target:
Washington County (TN) District Attorney Tony Clark
Sponsored by:
Mr. Clark

We are writing to ask that you prosecute the owner of the Annie, the basset hound in the photo at left, to the fullest extent of the law. Her owner, Randall Treadway of Telfod, Tenn., adopted her from the county shelter last year. After signing a contract saying he would care for her, he put her in a harness and stuck her in an outdoor kennel. He left her out in the elements and allowed the harness to become embedded in her body. Her flesh actually grew over the harness. Here are photos of the injury that remained when the harness was removed. Annie has suffered tremendously. Washington Co. Animal Control has cited Treadway, but he deserves jail time. Treadway faces a maximum $2,500 fine and up to a year in jail. Please be sure he gets the maximum penalty allowed. We also want to be certain Treadway is never allowed to own an animal again. Don't let Annie's suffering have been in vain.

We are writing to ask that you prosecute Randall Treadway to the fullest extent of the law. Treadway allowed a canvas harness to become embedded in the body of his basset hound, Annie, causing the animal a great deal of pain and suffering.

Treating an animal this way is not acceptable, and statistics show that people who abuse animals go on to abuse children and spouses.

Please stand up for your community, Mr. Clark, and let it be known that the citizens of Washington County will not tolerate cruelty to another living creature, even those with four legs.

Thank you for your consideration, and for taking the time to consider our views on this matter.

I absolutely agree! It's time we send a clear message in the state of Tennessee that animal neglet and abuse will not be tolerated under any circumstances.Mr. Treadway should be fined and imprisoned to the full extent of the law. He will still get off much better than poor Annie did!

Please prosecute this monster to the fullest extent. It will send an important message to other abusers. Our country needs to establish different standards for the treatment of animals. It is wrong that too many people get away with this.

Randall Treadway and Michael Vick have one thing in common, they both need to be put away for life.

This is really sick, no one should be allowed to treat an animal like this he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I have 2 bassets and 1 beagle. They are very loveable dogs and are just like our children.

This whole thing is really sick. I dont see how hecan get away with this, It is so sad that annie had to adore this pain. And the fact that he migh get away with this is horrible. I am the mother of his daughter and he is trying to take her away from me, how can he take care of a child when he cant even take care of a dog. Poor Annie I really hope someone gets her that will give her a really good home. And it sure is not Randall!!!

I work for a local Beagle Rescue in my county as a foster parent. I have seen so much abuse and negligence against inocent animals that it makes my heart sick. It takes more than rescues to help pick up the peices in these animals lives from were abusive owners distroy what spirit they have. It takes a community and the state laws to protect them. It is about time we do something to these offenders. Give them consequences for their actions, and never let them abuse another innocent animal again. It is up to us to stop them. I am sure I am not the only one that is as passionate about this issue as others are. Help us STOP ABUSE. NOW!!

To let this sort of cruelty to an innocent animal go unpunished with jail time, is more disgusting than I can truly express.

THAT OWNER WHO ADOPTED ANNIE, THE SAME THING SHOULD BE DONE TO HIM, WHY DO THESE PEOPLE TAKE ON ANIMALS AND THEN DO THAT, I JUST HOPE CPS CHECKS ON HIS CHILDREN TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT BEING TREATED THE SAME WAY..AND I HOPE HE IS NEVER ALLOWED TO HAVE ANOTHER ANIMAL EVER

I own a basset hound. Two actually. They are the most lovable dogs, literally. If you were to hurt a basset hound, to fight it, to be mean to it, it would still love you. That's the saddest thing. Why would anyone want to hurt such a sweet, innocent creature. It's done nothing to you. Humans are the corruption of this world. If humans hadn't come along, this world wouldn't have so many problems. It would be perfect. This man deserves more than the maximum penalty. I believe the penalty for animal cruelty should be just as serious as child cruelty. Animal murder should be prosecuted as seriously as human murder. Because animals matter, too.

POOR ANNIE!! THOSE PHOTOS MAKE ME SICK! I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SOMEONE CAN ABUSE AN ANIMAL IN SUCH A WAY. I HAVE 2 BASSETT HOUNDS MYSELF AND THEY ARE THE MOST LOVING DOGS EVER. MR TREADWAY NEEDS MORE THAN A FINE! HE NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW(EXTENED JAIL TIME)! PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE WHEN YOU GET A DOG OR ANY PET FOR THAT MATTER,IT IS NOW PART OF YOUR FAMILY AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH!!! ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS TOO, THEY FEEL PAIN JUST LIKE WE DO!!! I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO IMANGINE THE PAIN AND SUFFERING ANNIE WENT THROUGH. I FEEL THERE NEEDS TO BE A STRICTER SCREENING PROCESS OF THE PEOPLE THAT ADOPT PETS. A CHILD WOULD NEVER JUST BE HANDED OVER TO SOMEONE JUST BECAUSE THEY WANTED ONE. WHY IS AN ANIMAL?

It would be a much better world if EVERYONE could respect living things. I think the fellow that did this to her doesn't much respect HIMSELF either. So happy to see that Annie will be with a loving family now.

I viewed the photos that very clearly document the level of suffering and torment that Annie endured.Absolutely despicable. The perpetrator of this crime needs to be held accountable for what cruelty has occured here.*Punishment to the fullest of the law *.Society needs to hear the message that accompanies justice, that for which they need to be reminded of, always and forever -THAT ABUSING/NEGLECTING/EXPLOITING our sentient creatures will NOT BE TOLERATED IN A "JUST" SOCIETY .

Anyone who would abuse an animal often are those who will abuse children and spouses. This man needs to be taught a lesson! Paying a fine would only be a slap on the wrist for him. He needs to serve the maximun of time allowable by the courts in jail--he'll get better treatment there than he gave poor Annie!!!!! He also should be banned from ever having in his possession anything that would depend on him in any way for survival!!!!!

I lost my basset hound to a disease. It has been two years and I still miss her every single day. How could ANYONE treat a living creature this way, especially a basset who are such loving dogs! It is disgusting and inhumane! Something has to be done to stop this abuse!

This is outrageous! As the superior creatures on this planet, we are obligated (whether your belief is in a Creator, or Evolution) to be the stewards of this planet! This is an abomination and insult to morality and humanity.

Man's best friend is given into our care and are completely dependent on us for that care. Anyone who would abuse a dog in this manner would do the same to a person. This is heinous and unjustifiable.

My family saved a cat from children using it's whole litter for ''soccer practice,'' yes, they were kicking the whole litter to death. Their parents wanted the one live one back. But we took it to a vet who saved it. No one who allows a pet to suffer like this should be allowed to own one ever again! We take Twister in for acupuncture or cortizone injections for his pain from broken bones all these years later! He is a sweet, smart, loving pet and didn't deserve such cruel treatment.

People who harm animals eventually harm people. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Show Mr. Treadway that his actions have consequenses.
